Goal of Research

The goal of our research is to elucidate the varied biological functions of lipoprotein receptors of the LDL receptor gene family.
Relatives of the LDL receptor play important roles outside classical lipid metabolism, e.g. in embryonic development, in the vascular wall, and in the nervous system. We work with a variety of molecular and cell biological techniques and examine different mouse models to find out more about LRP1 and ApoER2/VLDL receptor function in particular. Ultimately we want to know how these receptors contribute to the physiological functions and pathological states of different organ systems and to embryonic development.
